Late September 2009

Imagine a small puddle of water with several children surrounding it, thankful for a days sustenance. This image becomes even darker when you combine filth, pollution, viruses, and other plaguing issues. This is reality to a village in Sudan, Africa. However, you put an irrigation system with water filtration in place of that same puddle, with a water spout. Protecting it from the surrounding dirt, trash, and other problems that may soil the precious supply. It creates an entirely new painting... such paintings reflected in that of the Art Whino Life Essentials exhibit in Northwest Washington DC. Vendors and artist alike gathered for this event to support such causes as awareness for the people of Sudan. Whom live 365 days with the ever present threat of contamination of natural resources. Portion of the proceeds from purchased pieces went towards funds to help develop villages and communities in Africa.
One vendor, Ms Kyndess Davis, of Ma'at Nuru Jewelry added that "These events really help" she explains. "Its great to see a organization not just donate money but actually physically provide their hands and efforts to build sustainable resources for the people as well". Art Whino, a DC based contemporary and politically conscious art gallery, uses its reputation to draw only the most sophisticated and eccentric individuals. People that don't mind extending their time and money to visit an important cause but also to do it in a great social setting. We suggest that you visit their site to get more updates and add yourself to their mailing list and even if you not in the DC area you should definetly check out their broad array of artist within their catalogue. You may just find someone in a city near you.""- K Raoof
